Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010

The Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is proud to be the Host of the 4th International Renewable Energy Conference in 2010. The Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 will be held from 27th to 29th October, 2010in New Delhi/ NCR.

DIREC 2010 is the fourth in the series of the International Renewable Energy Conferences, which followed from the initiative taken at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, acknowledging the significance of renewable energies for sustainable development – especially for combating poverty and for environmental and climate protection. DIREC 2010 is an international platform for government, private sector, and civil society leaders to jointly address the goal of advancing renewable energy. It will build upon the success of the previous events in Washington in 2008 (WIREC), Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004.

Government ministers, high-level decision makers and policy-level thinkers from countries all over the world will convene to address the key drivers of renewable energy production and use, which continue to drive the industry forward, despite the global economic recession.

The Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 will bring together the world’s leaders in the field of renewable energy from governments, civil society, and private sector and provide an interactive forum for them to discuss and exchange their visions, experience, and solutions for accelerating the global scale up of renewable energy.

Through interactive, moderated discussions, DIREC 2010 will enable its participants to acquire a deeper understanding of

  • The link from Copenhagen to Cancun via DIREC
  • The policy efforts needed to encourage and enable a major renewables scale up
  • What is needed to mobilize finance for renewable energy innovation and deployment
  • The benefits of collaboration, synergies, and knowledge-sharing at the international level to scale up renewables.

The Conference will consist of the following elements:

  • Ministerial level plenary sessions
  • Interactive ministerial sessions
  • Interactive stakeholder sessions
  • Joint ministerial and stakeholder sessions
  • Break out sessions on cross-cutting issues
  • CEO Roundtables
  • Official side events
  • Business Trade Show
  • Parallel half and full-day workshops

DIREC 2010 aims to build upon the outcomes of the conferences in Bonn, Beijing, and Washington by promoting pledges for concrete and innovative actions to advance renewables. The Delhi International Action Programme, which is managed by REN21 (Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century), a key international partner for DIREC 2010, will provide governments and other major stakeholders with an inspiring roadmap of global renewable energy progress and an invaluable source of information on specific steps they can take to advance the uptake of renewable energy. The International Action Programme, was initiated at the Bonn conference in 2004, and was further advanced by WIREC in Washington D.C. in 2008. REN21 has managed and documented the pledges, which today number 340. DIREC 2010 is a new opportunity for governments and other major stakeholders to make even bolder pledges to develop and enact renewable energy policies that will tackle energy security, environment and economic challenges and mainstream renewables into a low-carbon development pathway.

DIREC 2010 will be hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in association with partner organizations and managed by M/S Exhibitions India Group, New Delhi.

REN21 – the Renewable Energy Network Policy Network for the 21st Century – is the international DIREC partner.

With more than 7,000-9,000 delegates / participants, over 250 speakers and 600 exhibitors from 40 countries, the Event is expected to be the premier renewables gathering ever held in India.

Parallel Events

Official Side Events (OSE) will provide DIREC participants with the opportunity to delve deeper into the issues addressed at the conference. Some 35 side events will be held by non-governmental, governmental, and intergovernmental organizations. Applications to host OSE can be found on the DIREC website.

Parallel Workshops can be held alongside the ministerial conference at the same venue. These can be half or full-day sessions and will focus on the main DIREC topics. Applications to host parallel workshops can be made to MNRE using the forms found on the DIREC website.

A Trade Show Exhibition will be co-located with the conference, covering an area of more than 20,000m². The Trade Show at DIREC 2010 will be the largest business-to-business exhibition ever held on all renewable energies in India. It will provide renewable energy companies an unparalleled opportunity to interact to develop new projects, explore investment possibilities, and set up joint ventures.

One to One Meetings can be arranged for on the spot discussions/interactions within the Conference premises for entrepreneurs seeking collaborations, technology transfers, setting up of Joint Ventures and investments. Arrangments for such meetings shall be made on prior requests from the concerned parties.
